James Byles

James Byles

President

 

James uses his publishing and strategy expertise to help organizations communicate with their customers, engage their peers and compete in their marketplace through sophisticated custom media products. He and his team empower commercial and nonprofit organizations to tell their story, the way it’s meant to be told—powerfully, vividly and persuasively.

Prior to leading WCM, James ran Byles & Associates, a national advertising sales and contract publisher focused on business-to-business associations and for-profit clients.

Chris Combs

Director of Digital Product

 

Chris  leads Washingtonian’s team of agile designers and developers. He oversees and guides the Media Company’s overarching digital strategy and is responsible for managing all web properties, digital content, and other digital channels and projects. A digital native with extensive experience in online marketing and journalism, Chris seeks to empower readers through digital storytelling.

Prior to his career at Washingtonian, Chris worked at National Geographic in many roles: producing narrative special features that had great impact online, designing functionality for enterprise CMSes, and choosing photographs. He also worked for the Washington Post Company and started a family web firm in Minnesota.

 

Jeré Jefferson

Business Development Associate

 

Jeré works alongside James on the development and implementation of WCM’s marketing and business development strategy. She is responsible for overseeing new client accounts, client communications, and ongoing projects for WCM’s diverse client base.

Prior to joining WCM, Jeré served in various capacities within the nonprofit, public relations, corporate communications and marketing industries. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from Howard University.

Ryan Weisser

User-Experience Specialist

 

Ryan works with our editorial and digital teams to design digital products with a friendly user experience. Her background in journalism and web production influence design strategies that ensure users have the best possible experience, on any platform.

Ryan enjoys running, trying new restaurants in DC, and listening to podcasts (she’s currently obsessed with Malcolm Gladwell’s Revisionist History).

Emily Baird

Emily Baird

Marketing Art Director

 

Emily Baird specializes in creating graphics and logos for marketing materials focused in 2D print design, including advertisements, books, brochures, corporate collateral, identity and logo work, invitations, logos, posters and reports.

As Washingtonian’s marketing art director, she has developed many ad campaigns, marketing collateral, internal and external material, advertorials and event packaging. Her role in this project will include reviewing design concepts, developing strategy, and finding themes. Emily brings a strong print background to the project, and understands what draws people into a printed material differently from a digital design. She has a BFA in art and graphic design from Longwood University.
